Umrah offers a unique opportunity

Umrah in its present form dates back to the life of Muhammad, a complex of many pre-Islamic celebrations that have been reinterpreted in monotheistic terms and supplemented by Muslim prayers.

Huge pilgrimage meetings are held in Saudi Arabia and more than 10 million pilgrims from over 180 different countries attend each year. Umrah offers a unique opportunity to study an enormous meeting that has received little scientific attention to date and conduct health research in a flexible and easy-to-find environment. Health research initiatives in Hajj and Umrah should be encouraged so that the knowledge and experience generated can be used to improve planning and provide effective public health services during these events, as well as other group meetings around the world.
